JUVE Handbook: Estimated in insurance law (2015/2016)

Insurance Law

Ranking: Respected insurance law firm, whose current market position continues to rise at an increasing rate. This is primarily due to the firm’s work in sensitive tax-related liability matters. However, the firm’s in-depth specialization in tax law also reflects in its representation of a number of investors in a series of lawsuits involving the so-called Sheridan Funds issued by a bank, which PL is suing for indemnity on behalf of said investors over the bank’s controversial cum-ex models. Another major portion of the law firm’s cases continues to comprise tax advisor, auditor and lawyer liability matters. Here the firm relies on its long-established and stable connections to renowned insurers.

Strengths: Tax law expertise.

Potential for Development: The law has already begun applying its litigation experience to disputes in other law fields too. For example, it has rendered its services to, among others, a Japanese company involved in a dispute over monetary claims from working time accounts, a law firm undergoing liquidation and an outlet center in the Rhine-Main area facing court proceedings in a VAT and capital gains tax matter. This is certainly a major step forward for the firm (…). Frequently recommended: Dr. Reinhard Patzina, Thorsten Lotz

Areas of Practice: Consulting and litigation services in D&O and other liability cases. Longstanding industry contacts and tax law expertise make for many cases of professional liability cases (lawyers, notaries, tax advisors, auditors, insolvency administrators, liquidators), plus tax and corporate law matters. (3 partners, 2 associates)

Clients: Defense of former board member against claims of improper credit extension to an investor; defense of law/tax consulting company against claims stemming from tax advice in restructuring matter before the District Court (LG) of Frankfurt; defense of numerous tax advisors against claims of improper consulting; defense of law firm against claim of improper counsel; regular client base including insurance clients HOl, VWI insurance pool, Ergo, Allianz, Zurich, R+V in tax advisor, auditor and lawyer liability cases; defense of major law firm against claim of improper counsel.
